City Councilor Matt O’Malley was elected as the District 6 representative to the Boston City Council in a special election on November 16, 2010. His district includes the neighborhoods of West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain and parts of Roslindale and Mission Hill.
Councilor O’Malley grew up in Roslindale and today owns a home in Jamaica Plain. He is a graduate of Boston Latin School and George Washington University.
Councilor O’Malley serves as Chair of the City Council’s Environment and Health Committee. He is also Vice Chair the Economic Development and Planning Committee and is a member of the committees on: Ways and Means, Government Operations, Education, and Public Safety.
Councilor O’Malley is dedicated to ensuring that all of Boston’s children have access to an excellent public education system. His priorities also include public safety, economic development, and environmental issues.
Prior to his election, Councilor O’Malley was political director for MassEquality and Director of Legislative Affairs for Suffolk County Sherriff Andrea Cabral, where he worked to implement numerous crime prevention initiatives. Councilor O’Malley has also worked on the campaigns of several other Democratic elected officials.
Councilor O’Malley is a member of the Democratic State Committee and the Advisory Committee for Project Hope, an anti-poverty agency in Boston. He also raised funds through the Boston Marathon for Children’s Hospital and Habitat for Humanity.
